NAUPA Approves Updated Standard Reporting Format

The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators approved revisions to the NAUPA Standard Electronic File Format at its Annual Meeting on July 14, 2002 in St. Louis. The revised format will become effective on November 1, 2003.

Forty-nine states and one Canadian province have voluntarily agreed to accept the NAUPA standardized reporting method. However, NAUPA as the association of the state government officials that act as custodians of and return unclaimed property to owners is not a governing body and possesses no authority to supersede individual state laws or reporting instructions. NAUPA recommends that all holders verify that the standardized method is accepted before submitting reports to any state.
